There are a few ways to play JSRF (Jet Set Radio Future) due to their being several disc versions and backwards compatibility with the Xbox 360, but they are not all equal in quality.

Jet Set Radio Future is an futuristic graffiti skating game. It is one of the most highly praised Sega games and it is only becoming more popular by it not being backwards compatible for the Xbox One. JSRF is backwards compatible for the Xbox 360 but there's a catch.

JSRF was released for the original Xbox in two versions. One is the stand-alone version and the other is a a combo-disc that included SEGA GT 2002. The stand alone version is rare and more expensive. The combo-disc can be found for under $6.00 at retro gaming stores or online. Taking a peak at the list of backwards compatible original Xbox games for the Xbox 360 you will notice that Microsoft left out the combo-disc version of JSRF. Either way, both versions of JSRF are backwards compatible on the Xbox 360. 

JSRF runs best on the console it was built for, the original Xbox. When playing it backwards compatible on the Xbox 360 gamers have experienced a number of glitches and slow downs.

Note: Any JSRF disc ran on the Xbox 360 with a cache will have good load times, but more time is lost on StgObj rendering.

NTSC-U combo disc [North America]
Sewer skip IS NOT patched.

NT-3000 is incomplete and glitchy in this version.
This disc includes Sega GT 2002 and game demos.
Load times are mediocre.






NTSC-U standalone disc [North America]
Sewer skip is patched (but you can still get sewer skip by having the proper cache settings.)
Load times are decent. Saves about a minute in load times to combo disc.






PAL combo disc [Europe]
Sewer skip is patched.
Comes with Sega GT 2002 and game demos.
Load times are mediocre.









PAL standalone disc [Europe]
Sewer skip is patched.
Load times are decent. Saves about a minute in load times to combo disc.







NTSC-J standalone disc [Japanese]
Sewer skip is patched (but you can still get sewer skip by having the proper cache settings.)
Load times are decent. Saves about a minute in load times to combo disc.
Note that dialog durations are SIGNIFICANTLY shorter on this, but this means many strats such as heli skip are near impossible for a human to pull off if you're going to speed run with this version.





Xbox.com used to have a list of Backward Compatibility Technical Support and Known Issues,
The only thing it mentioned was "there is graphic flickering in the main menu."

These Glitches can occur in JSRF if it is played on the 360 instead of the original Xbox:
  1. Street names blink when you pause the game: * Whenever you pause the game on the original Xbox, the street names stay black, but on the 360, the street names will blink black and a bright blue color.
  2. Blacked out legend: * Pause the game and look on the lower left of the map, you should see a box with some numbers on it, on the original Xbox, you should be able to see the Graffiti Soul symbol, and the graffiti is that have been tagged, on the 360 the box just remains black.
  3. Lag in certain areas: * Areas like 99th Street and Fortified Residential Zone start to lag a lot in the 360, and not so much on the original Xbox.
  4. Super Small and Small custom tags have no transparent background. * On the 360, custom SS and S tags will show the background from the tag editor when you spray in the streets.
  5. Un-taggable XL tag in Shibuya Terminal: * Located on a platform between the exits to Hikage Street and Chuo Street, there is an XL tag that you need tag for the test runs in Shibuya terminal, but 360 players will not see the cursor for said XL tag, and therefore unable to complete the test run. (Important note: There is a way around this glitch, just jump up and down on the platform and keep holding the Right Trigger as you jump, you will be able to spray the tag with ease.)

Also noted, the video below is a comparison of JSRF being played on an original Xbox and on Xbox 360 which was showing extreme slowdown and lag in this area in the game.
