Are emulators, ROMs and games included on the Xbox Softmod Kit memory card?

What are emulators?

An emulator can be described as the digital form of a retro video game system i.e. Super Nintendo. The emulators for the original Xbox are unique and will only work on the original Xbox. See our complete list of emulators for the original Xbox. Learn more.

What are ROMs?

ROMs can be described as the digital form/computer file of retro video games i.e. Super Mario World. A Super Nintendo ROM will only function on a Super Nintendo emulator.

How do I install emulators, ROMs and retro games on my original Xbox?

Can I install Xbox Media Center (XBMC) on my original Xbox after installing the softmod? 

Yes. XBMC can be installed on your Xbox once the Xbox softmod is installed. Learn more

Can I rip games and DVD's into the original Xbox hard drive with the Xbox Softmod Kit installed?

Yes. Once the Xbox softmod is installed you'll be able to rip Xbox games and DVD's into your hard drive at the touch of a button. 

Can I play backup games on my original Xbox with the Xbox Softmod Kit installed. 

Yes. 

Will backup games or ripped games work with other Xbox's when playing on a system-link (LAN) party? 

Yes. 

How many original Xbox's can I softmod with the Xbox Softmod Kit?

What is required to softmod the original Xbox?

Which Splinter Cell do I need to install the original Xbox Softmod?

Dashboard 5960 is a free original Xbox dashboard update that can be downloaded for free from an Xbox game released November 9, 2004 or later that featured Xbox Live, internet is "not" required. Learn more
How do I transfer files into my original Xbox?

How much is a pre-owned original Xbox worth today?

A pre-owned original Xbox with a controller and proper connections is worth $50.00 or less. 

Will I still be able to play original Xbox games after installing the Xbox softmod?

Yes. The Xbox softmod does "not" remove any original features. 

Will the Xbox Softmod Kit work on Xbox 360 or Xbox One?

No. The Xbox Softmod Kit will only work on the original Microsoft Xbox. 

Can I output high definition on my PAL original Xbox?

Yes. After you have installed the Xbox Softmod Kit you will have the option to output high definition/progressive. However, you must have High Definition AV Pack to connect component cables from Xbox to TV in order for your TV to output high definition. 

What is NTSC? 

NTSC is the video system standard used in North America and most of South America. An NTSC Xbox requires an NTSC memory card and NTSC Splinter Cell to install the Xbox softmod. The Xbox Softmod Kit is available in NTSC format Learn more.
