Xbox2WiiComponent Review

We were glad to receive an Xbox2WiiComponent Pro adapter from Consoles4You from Switzerland.

They created this unique component cable adapter that allows Nintendo Wii component cables to be used for the original Xbox.

The Xbox2WiiComponent Pro allows the use of Nintendo component cables which allow for high definition, HD video to be displayed on your TV. The original Xbox was the for home video game console that allowed HD gaming. Some original Xbox can run up to 1080i native, others 720p and many more at 480p. If an original Xbox game does not allow 480p it will play in 480i, make sure to adjust the display settings at the dashboard to enable HD and widescreen (if using). You’ll notice a big jump from your standard RCA AV cables which are yellow, red & white. Component cables produce a mich better picture, the cables are made up of green, blue, red and red/white for audio.

Consoles4You recommended to use either Nintendo brand component cables (RVL-011) or HDRetroVision brand. This is not to say that other brands of Wii component cables won’t work but instead that these two are guaranteed to work.

Your original Xbox does not require any mods to use the Xbox2WiiComPonent Pro, it’s a simple plug & play. We were able to test the Xbox2WiiComponent Pro with Nintendo brand component cables on an HDTV as well as a CRT.

The Xbox2WiiComponent Pro also supports digital audio that is what makes it the Pro version. The previous version of Xbox2WiiComponent did not support digital audio. Digital audio is also a feature on the official Xbox High Definition AV Pack by Microsoft.

The Xbox2WiiComponent Pro is an inexpensive way to play original Xbox games in HD because the official Xbox High Definition AV Pack by Microsoft (X08-25301) are rare to find and costs around $80 USD at the time of this review. The Xbox2WiiComponent Pro is a great alternative and comes to be even less expensive if you already have Wii component cables which cost around $15 USD. The cost for the Xbox2WiiComponent Pro is around $40 and that includes shipping from Switzerland to USA.

If you are in Europe, Australia or in a PAL region, your original Xbox is also PAL and would require to softmod your original Xbox and install the free installation of a program called Enigmah to activate the HD capabilities of the original Xbox. This is because Microsoft locked out the HD capability when they shipped the Xbox to PAL regions. If you are in the USA, Canada or a NTSC region, then you will not need a softmod or the program Enigmah to enable HD on your Xbox.
