When you receive your USB and/or USB/Cable combination for the softmod you will need to follow these steps to install the softmod onto your original Xbox. The first step is to copy the save files on the USB to your Xbox. There are a handful of games that are available to softmod your Xbox with softmod. Each game has a specific save file in order to install the softmod. YOU ONLY NEED ONE (1) OF THE GAMES BELOW TO START TO SOFTMOD YOUR XBOX.
- Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: This is the first Splinter Cell in the series, either the black label or platinum hits version will work. The sequels will not work.
- Mechassault: Black label version only and the serial # "MS02301L" is required to have been written on the back of the inner disc. The platinum hits and/or the "not for resale" versions will not work.
- 007: Agent Under Fire: Black label version, all black label versions work. Platinum hits version requires serial # “1448517” on the disc.
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4: For NTSC (North America), the black label and/or platinum hits will work. Now here there are 3 versions of the save, NTSC, PAL & Region Free. The PAL Classics edition of TH4 is Region Free, so requires the region free save. Original PAL games maybe PAL or Region Free. (French version of THPS4 requires the PAL save)
- Metal Arms: Glitch in the SystemThere are 3 known official releases of Metal Arms - NTSC, PAL and World Collection (NTSC-J). For NTSC and World Collection use the NTSC save file. For PAL use the PAL save file. Instructions are the same for both save files.
- Frogger Beyond: Frogger Beyond has only been released in North America (NTSC).

- Insert USB on the cable adapter securely
- Connect cable adapter into controller port 3 or 4 on the Xbox.
- Power on Xbox (without disc)
- Select "MEMORY"
- Select "CONTROLLER", it will be on one of the 4 corners. That is the USB appearing as memory on the Xbox dashboard.
- Next step is to copy the two (2) or three save files to the Xbox. (In some cases like metal arms, it has 3 saves total)
- Use the controller D-PAD to select the files. First you must highlight one (1) save file at a time. Highlight the save file by pressing "RIGHT" ---> on the controller D-PAD. When you select the correct save file you will see the option to "COPY"
- Select "COPY" If you do not see the option to "COPY" it is because you have not highlighted the correct save file. Read step #7 again.
- COPY both save files
- After you have successfully copies the two (2) or three save files, UNPLUG the USB cable from the Xbox.
- Select "MEMORY"
- Select "XBOX HARD DISK", It's the Xbox console at the center.
- Check to see if the two (2) or three save files have been copied. If yes, then continue this tutorial and follow the instructions under "THE GAME" you are using to softmod the Xbox.

1) Insert the "MechAssault" game
2) Turn the Xbox off and back on
3) Select "CAMPAIGN"
4) Select "Install Linux"

1) Insert the "007 AUF" game
2) Turn the Xbox off and back on
3) Select "Select mission"
4) Start the "trouble in paradise" mission
5) When you hear or see the helicopter, press (Start) and quit the mission
6) Press (B) to go back to the main menu
7) Select "load mission" followed by "Xbox Hard Disk"
8) NOW FOLLOW THE VIDEO ABOVE

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4

1) Insert the "Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4" game
2) Turn the Xbox off and back on
3) Select "Free Skate"
4) Select "Any Character"
5) Select "Play Level"
6) Select "Created Park"
7) Select "Load Park"
8) Pick "Yes"
9) Select "Hack Xbox Park"
10) Select "Play Park"
11) NOW FOLLOW THE VIDEO ABOVE

Metal Arms
0) First step is to follow the instructions above. You only need one (1) of the games to softmod your Xbox. If you use this game, then you don't need another game.
1) Insert the "Metal Arms: Glitch in the System" game
2) Turn the Xbox off and back on
3) Select Multiplayer
4) Select the profile ending in "%hn"
5) Start any multiplayer level
6) Quit out of the game
7) Back out to profile selection
8) Select the profile ending in "2nd"
9) At gametype selection press X (More) and then Y (New) to create a new gametype
10) Replace the name "Unnamed19" with "%255x%n%x%hn"
11) Hit Done and then A to accept
12) Go back to gametype selection (DO NOT go back to profile selection or you will have to repeat from step 8)
13) Select any gametype and multiplayer level
14) Quit out of the game
15) NOW FOLLOW THE VIDEO ABOVE
